Opossumom

€210,00

This sculpture was inspired by opossums and their unusual relationship with their young, particularly the way baby opossums ride on their mother’s back. I found this image both humorous and touching, and I wanted to capture that sense of closeness. This distinctive behaviour of carrying its babies offered an interesting subject both visually and conceptually.

The opossum is sometimes seen as an unattractive or unwanted animal, so I like the idea of presenting it in a way that encourages people to see it differently. The babies resting on the mother’s back create a playful image, but they also communicate ideas of care, protection and dependence.

I would like viewers to notice the individuality of the handmade forms and perhaps think about how beauty can be found in animals and objects that are overlooked.
